As a university professor, you find all kinds of people walking through the doors of your classroom, and getting to know this diversity of minds, personalities, and experiences is one of the joys of being a professor. I had Adele in several classes and served as co-chair of her doctoral committee, following her through a process of inquiry, discovery, and critique. She was always open-minded, energetic, disciplined, and determined, as well as being cheerful and good-natured. When I first met her, in the first class she took with me back in 2014, I asked students to introduce themselves to each other and to me by providing some basic facts and including one interesting point that would help us remember them. Adele said, "This is not my real hair." Gulp. She was in chemo at that time and wearing a wig. Yup, we remembered that. I think by the time she graduated in 2019, she had her real hair back. But now it, and all the rest of her, is gone. I'm glad I got to know her and the more I learned about her, the more I admired her. Deepest condolences to her family and friends for the loss of such a bright light. Carolyn Miller
